Why Are People Camping Out at Target on Thanksgiving?

Several retailers have opted to close their doors for Thanksgiving, a day that has become the unofficial national holiday. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t get your Christmas shopping done – or at least that’s the premise of the retail conglomerate’s recent holiday campaign. For example, Target’s most popular store in Fort Worth, TX, is open seven days a week. You can still find a bargain on a new TV, laptop, or pair of shoes. And, you won’t have to rush out of your house on Thanksgiving to get there, either.

In addition to the aforementioned no-expenses-required shopping day, Target has also enlisted the aid of its staff to deliver more than a dozen gift cards to lucky customers. It’s not just about the freebies, though – there are many perks to being a loyal Target shopper, ranging from same-day delivery to free coffee and booze.

Of course, there are some wholly unwelcome side effects. As a result, the company has adopted a no-solicitation policy at its properties. So, you’ll never be bombarded with salespeople asking you to buy their products. And, as a bonus, you’ll be able to enjoy a quiet evening in your pajamas. If you’re not a fan of being a pampered princess, there are plenty of free campsites in the U.S., a fact that’s been well-documented on social media. The aforementioned no-solicitation rule applies to the company’s other stores and online locations, as well.

Of course, this does not include the company’s recent purchase of the assets of several other retail outfits, including Walmart, Target, and Costco. As a result, the company’s annual revenues have grown by some 15 percent compared to a year ago. To compensate, the company has added hundreds of extra employees to keep up with the demand.

So, if you’re going to eschew the traditional turkey dinner for the high-tech one, be sure to have some money to spare. The best part is, you’ll still be able to snag the holiday’s biggest deals before the hordes arrive. As for the actual holiday itself, well, that’s another story.
