Liz Ratliff, Artist at Morehead State University, Paints the Americana Music Awards

Liz Ratliff, an artist at Morehead State University, has been painting the Americana Music Awards since 2013. She met Grant Alden, the co-founder of No Depression magazine and a founding member of the Americana Music Association when she was working in the Fuzzy Duck Coffee Shop. They became good friends. Ratliff had been turned down for several graduate programs, but when Alden offered her the job, she accepted. She has been painting the Americana Music Awards ever since.

The Americana Music Awards are a celebration of country music and the work of local artists. Every year, two of these awards are given out to honor the finest works of American country music. The Americana Music Awards are given out by the Americana Music Association. During the ceremony, the Americana winners are presented with a painting by Ratliff. The paintings are displayed at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, and are also featured at the Coal Miner’s Daughter Museum in Hurricane Mills.

Stephanie Ratliff’s artistic work has earned her several awards. In addition to painting, she also works with ceramics and printmaking. Her love for music began as a child when her brother introduced her to punk music. She grew to love artists like Nirvana, Face to Face, and Le Tigre. Later on, she found that many of the artists she liked were influenced by country music. She considers Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn as some of her favorite artists.

A group of singer-songwriters, such as Our Native Daughters, are vying for the Artist of the Year award, as well as the Song of the Year award. But they’ll need to rise above the competition in order to take home the prize. Brandi Carlile, who recently produced her debut album in Nashville’s RCA Studio A, is also up for the album award.
