City Noir by John Adams

If you love music and film, you should check out City Noir by John Adams at the Caveman Music Festival in the fall of 2022. This new work is inspired by a chapter in the history of California, “Embattled Dreams” called “The Black Dahlia.” Set in the 1940s, the piece was influenced by the noir films of the time. The piece requires a jazz-influenced soloist, but it also calls for classically trained virtuosos. A saxophonist has discovered that the solo part is the most challenging part of the piece.

This year’s lineup of shows will feature a wide range of genres. There will be pop musical “The Marvelous Wonderettes,” which follows four teenage girls from prom to their ten-year reunion, and more. The show will feature songs from the ’50s and ’60s. Another new show is a comedy called “Defending the Caveman,” written by comedian Rob Becker and directed by Michael McQueen.
