Iwanusa’s Caveman has evolved since 2010
In the year since his debut album, Matthew Iwanusa’s Caveman has been steadily improving its sound. Their songs have become heavier and more spacious, using synthesizer pads and harmonies more judiciously. Their lyrics have also grown from typical twenty-something romantic frustrations to larger existential questions. With the release of their new EP, “Otero War,” Caveman will continue their extensive tour across the US and Europe.
As the band’s lead singer and songwriter, Iwanusa has been surrounded by musicians who have contributed to the band’s sound. They collaborated with Johnny T, a legendary figure in the New York punk scene, who hired some of them to work in his bar or as DJs. He was one of the key people behind the band’s signing to the Cinematic Music Group, the same company that signed Joey Bada$$ and Chris Martin. The band’s father also contributed to their string arrangements.
Its lineup includes Sam Bush, Leftover Salmon, Infamous Stringdusters
The festival’s first night will feature a wide-ranging lineup of musical acts, including Sam Bush, Leftover Salmon, Infamy Stringdusters, and Larry Keel Experience. The second night will feature a special appearance by Peter Rowan and the Free Mexican Airforce featuring Los Texmaniacs. Bowregard will play her first Suwannee show, while Verlon Thompson will perform a special workshop alongside Jim Lauderdale and then perform his second set at the festival. Finally, the festival closes with Donna the Buffalo and a line-up of festival favorite acts.
The band has been performing for over 30 years and their lineup features Sam Bush, Leftover Salmon, Infamy Stringdusters, and many other acts. Its founder, Vince Herman, moved to Boulder from Morgantown, WV in 1985 to pursue his musical career. He later met Drew Emmitt at a Left Hand String Band show. Both artists were inspired to perform and collaborate, and a friendship was born.
