What do You need to Go Camping?

Whether you’re planning a big adventure with your family or just a weekend away, there are a few essentials that you’ll want to bring. Creating a checklist for yourself can make sure you don’t miss anything. This includes obvious items like sunscreen and hiking boots, as well as more obscure things like tents and camping lanterns.

You might want to pack a few extra outfits for your kids. This is especially true if they’re young and won’t be using the same things on consecutive nights. It’s also smart to have a spare set of clothes for yourself. For example, you might want to wear a pair of underwear that’s designed for wet weather, such as merino wool.

One of the simplest ways to organize your gear is to use packing sacs. These nifty devices are designed to carry miscellaneous items such as flashlights and electronics. They’re especially useful for families with young children.

A camping first aid kit is a must. Included should be bandaids, sterile gauze, a first aid kit, and OTC medications. You can buy a pre-made kit, or build your own. It’s a good idea to carry a water purification tablet, as well. A portable battery-powered light is also a must.

For nighttime activities, a battery-powered light is an excellent way to light up your campsite. You can also use a pre-heated slab of rock for cooking meat, or simply heat food with aluminum foil. A campfire is also a fun and effective way to spend the evening, but it’s not an optimal light source.

You’ll also want to make sure you pack a water bottle. Not only are water bottles great for keeping your water cool, but they’ve also been shown to withstand the wear and tear of a camping trip.

You’ll also want to make a detailed camping list. Start by writing down your favorite activities, then pick a few of them to include in your packing list. In addition, print out the registration for the campsite you’re going to be staying at. You can also use an online registration system to make things easier. You can find many campsites that offer online registration.

The best way to pack is to go in with a plan. For example, you might want to bring a cooler, or just bring along a water bottle. A cooler is also great for packing a meal, and you’ll probably want to bring food to cook over the campfire. Then, you’ll want to pack your car to the best of your ability, including separating the clothing you’ll wear while camping from the clothes you’ll wear while driving. If you’re packing for a car-camping trip, you’ll also need a hard-sided suitcase.

Lastly, you’ll want to pack a backpack. This can range in size from a small daypack to a backpack that’s designed for hiking. Regardless of what kind of backpack you get, make sure you have a supportive strap system. Also, be sure to carry a day’s worth of water, and pack it in a water bottle that’s big enough to drink from.
