What Should I Bring Camping?

Whether you are going to go camping in the mountains or the woods, you’ll want to pack the right gear. There’s no need to waste space by packing too much, or too little. With the right planning, you’ll be ready to enjoy your next trip.

The first and most obvious item to pack for your next camping trip is your tent. A good tent is essential to protecting you from the elements and can be a lifesaver when your camping trip gets out of hand. You’ll also want to check out the facilities at your chosen campsite. If you’re going camping near a lake, make sure you have a dry bag for any wet items you may bring with you.

If you plan to cook over the fire, you’ll want to pack a few kitchen essentials, including a cutting board, a few pots and pans, and a few utensils. Depending on your cooking style, you may want to bring something specialized, such as a Dutch oven. A Dutch oven is the perfect piece of cookware to use over the campfire, and can be used to boil, sauté, braise, and steam food.

Other essential items to pack include a flashlight, a headlamp, and a good pair of hiking boots. You’ll also want to have a plan for getting to your destination. If you’re going to camp in a cabin, you may be able to bring a cooler to keep your food fresh, but if you’re going to camp in the woods, you’ll need to pack up your own.

The right utensils can make or break your camping trip, and you should pack one of each. A good pair of tongs and a spatula are important items to have on hand, and a cast iron skillet is great for grilling. You might also want to bring a few Tupperware containers to keep leftovers from spoiling.

You may also want to bring along a few items to pass the time, especially if you’re camping with kids. Items like a puzzle book or a travel-sized board game will provide entertainment.

Another nifty camping item is a clothesline. This can be especially useful for families with small children, or those with a tendency to leave clothes on the ground.

Aside from the usual toilet paper and trash bags, you should also bring a few items for the bathroom, such as soap, shampoo, and conditioner. If you are going to camp in the woods, a few sticks of bug spray will keep you from getting bit by bugs, and some citronella-based products will repel mosquitos.

While you’re at it, you should also pack the right kind of flashlight. The MagLite is a good option, as it emits a powerful beam, and is ideal for navigating the dark. You may also want to bring a headlamp, especially if you are arriving at the campsite late in the evening.

There are many other items to consider, but the above list should serve as a good start. Check the weather forecast to ensure you’re prepared for whatever the weather may bring.
