How to Keep Your Belongings Safe at Festivals

If you’re heading to a music festival this year, there are a few things that you should know about keeping your belongings safe. Thankfully, crime at festivals is not as common as it used to be but it still happens from time to time so it’s important to be aware of the potential dangers and take precautions.

Don’t leave valuables unattended in your tent or in your car

This is probably one of the most obvious tips, but it’s an important one to remember and a good way to keep thieves at bay! If you’re camping, then a simple solution is to keep your money and valuables in an inside pocket or bum bag. This means you can easily find it if you lose it, but it also makes it harder for people to get to your stuff as it’s not easy to break into.

Don’t leave your ID at home

It may seem counterproductive to take your ID with you to a festival, but it can be invaluable if you need to make a claim for stolen items. It can also prove useful if you need to re-enter the festival later in the day and want to make sure that your ticket is valid.

Stay together

Whether you are going with friends or on your own, it’s always a good idea to have someone close by to look out for your belongings. It can also be helpful to arrange a group meet-up before the event to ensure that everyone is on the same page, as well as make sure that you’re all safe and sound.

Only bring the essentials

As much as you’re looking forward to dancing to your favorite artists, it’s a good idea to think about what you’ll actually need for the weekend and pack accordingly. It’s tempting to bring your most expensive camera and wads of cash but if you are only going for the music, it may be worth consolidating these things into smaller items that you won’t need to carry around with you all weekend.

Use a secure bag or backpack

If you are carrying a lot of your valuables, then it’s a good idea to invest in a quality pack or backpack that has secret pockets so that you can hide your valuables away from prying eyes. This is especially the case if you’re attending a larger festival with lots of crowds.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

When you’re out and about at a festival, it can be easy to get lost in the crowds. There are often lots of helpful people on hand but it’s still worth asking for help if you feel like you can’t find your way or have been separated from your party.

Don’t be afraid to report anything that’s wrong

If something is missing, don’t hesitate to let the security team or police know right away so that they can help find it for you. This is particularly important if it’s your passport or ID card which you’ll need to re-enter the festival.
